Since Franklin and Piper came into our lives, I have to resist the urge to make everything I do all about them. I mean, they’re so incredibly cute, can you blame me? Getting creative with dog treats is so much easier than human treats, and these ones just require throwing all the ingredients in one bowl. So there’s no excuse for your dog not to have freshly baked cookies.
We typically stick to a grain-free diet for our pups, but these treats are a little exception. Although oatmeal is technically a grain, it has some great benefits for dogs and I think it’s okay in moderation (i.e. in occasional treats instead of everyday food). If you want to stay strict on a grain-free diet, check out my last puppy treat creation.
Peanut Butter Oatmeal Dog Cookies
Yield: 18 cookies
- 1 ripe banana, mashed
- 1/4 cup peanut butter
- 1/4 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup almond flour
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons ground flaxseeds
Preheat oven to 300°F and line two cookie sheets.
Whisk the banana, peanut butter and chicken broth together in a medium bowl until completely combined. Add the remaining dry ingredients and stir until evenly mixed. The batter will be thick, similar to standard cookie dough.
Drop spoons by rounded tablespoons onto the cookie sheets, spacing about 1 inch apart. Bake for 30 minutes, or until cookies are set and dry throughout. Allow to cool completely before feeding!
Refine Baking Tips
- If your pup has a birthday coming up, you can easily making this into a cake by pressing into the pan of your choice. Just be prepared to increase your bake time and check back to see when the cake has set through to the middle.
- If you don’t have a ripe banana, substitute about 1/3 cup applesauce instead.
