Today we’re talking about cheese! A good cheese board is the hallmark of any successful party or gathering, so I’m sharing my guidelines to creating one that’s as photo-worthy as it is delicious. First off, you’ll need to find a beautiful board or platter to begin your display. You may want a blank canvas like this one, a more rustic feel like this one, or something a little more trendy and unique, like this.
When making my cheese selections, I prefer not to overthink it. You could spend years studying the different flavors and qualities of cheese varieties and how to pair them with wine, but I say just stick to what you like and try to mix it up. It’s always a good idea to pick varying flavors and textures – soft (like camembert), semi-soft (like Humboldt Fog), semi-hard (like Pt. Reyes Toma) and hard (like Manchego).
Finally, pick out all your accouterments! Think seasonally and get creative to fill all the area around your cheeses with colorful and interesting add-ons. Remember to leave your cheese out at room temperature at least 30 minutes prior to serving to allow the best flavor to come out.
