As long as I can remember I’ve had very sensitive skin. That means that even a product that may eventually be a good fit for me, will likely cause an adverse reaction the first few times trying it out. Over the years I’ve experimented a lot and honed in on a few products that work well for me on a regular basis. I’m not an expert and no two people are the same, but I can give my feedback on some of the great skin care products I’ve discovered.
Clarisonic Every night I use my Clarisonic Mia with the deep pore attachment. I love it because it provides a regular, gentle exfoliation and it feels so much more effective for removing every trace of makeup than just a washcloth.
La Prairie Foam Cleanser At first glimpse this cleanser seems expensive, but I promise it will last you for months and months. Just the smallest pea sized dab on my Clarisonic is more than enough. This is the gentlest cleanser that foams up enough to really clean, but still feels as though it’s soothing my skin rather than irritating.
Dickenson’s Witch Hazel This is the budget pick of the bunch, but it’s something I’ve been using for years as a toner thanks to my Dad. Sometimes you don’t need anything fancy, and this is as effective (if not more so) than any high-end toner I’ve tried.
M-61 Power Glow Peel Easily the most expensive skin care product I will ever suggest, but also the most life changing. They come in individually packaged wipes, and you can actually feel them working as you wipe. It quite literally feels like my own little mini facial every night.
Kiehl’s Oil Free Gel Cream I naturally have oily skin, so I’ve always struggled with finding a moisturizer that doesn’t clog pores and feel too thick underneath makeup. This gel moisturizer is light and absorbs right in, making it the perfect base. It may not be enough for someone with dry skin, but it’s plenty for my skin when coupled with the occasional moisturizing mask.
Arcona Cranberry Gommage The BEST exfoliator! I’ve been using this exclusively for about the last five years and I have to say it’s the most essential part of my weekly routine. I use it a couple of times a week for a great deep clean that leaves me with a fresh face every time.
Arcona Wine Hydrating Mask Since I use such a light moisturizer on a regular basis, I’m conscious of monitoring if my skin needs any extra hydration. During the summer that’s rare, but during the colder months I use this mask a couple of times a week, or whenever I feel like I need it. It’s thick and creamy so it moisturizes throughout, but still doesn’t clog pores. Also, it’s made with wine.
For body I keep it simple and inexpensive with Dr. Bronner’s cleanser, Nivea body lotion, and Aquaphor for chapped lips. If you have any sensitive skin suggestions or questions on the products I listed, please let me know by comment, email or social media!
